The Lamborghini Terzo Millennio is a futuristic electric concept car unveiled at the 2017 Millennium World Congress in Milan, Italy.
Developed in collaboration with MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology).
The Terzo Millennio is a bold statement from Lamborghini about the future of performance and electrification in the hypercar segment.
It is a fully electric vehicle. It integrates supercapacitors as the primary energy storage system,
allowing for incredibly fast charging and high power density, making it much more efficient than current lithium-ion batteries.
The Terzo Millennio would utilize four electric motors, each positioned at each wheel, providing optimal torque vectoring and delivering impressive handling performance.
One of the most innovative aspects of the Terzo Millennio is the carbon-fiber body, which contains integrated energy storage systems.
Lamborghini and MIT have worked on advanced materials that are not only light and strong but can also act as a battery.
The car’s exterior panels are embedded with supercapacitors, which allow the car to store energy directly in the bodywork, making it possible to charge while driving
or under sunlight exposure. This represents a complete departure from traditional methods of battery placement.
The collaboration with MIT was pivotal in creating the Terzo Millennio’s innovative features, particularly the self-healing carbon fiber and energy storage technologies.
MIT’s input helped bring Lamborghini’s vision for the future of high-performance electric vehicles to life, and their research into future materials played a key role in the concept's development.
One of the most striking innovations introduced in the Terzo Millennio is the development of self-healing carbon fiber. This material allows the car’s body to repair
itself when small cracks or damage occur, ensuring the vehicle maintains its integrity without the need for complex repairs.
